A long time ago,
There we were, bound
With chains and shackles,
No free will of our own
Being slaves in our land
Serving the whites who colonized us.
Disrespected, maltreated
The struggle continued,
It seemed like it was going to last forever
And there was no stopping the pain.
Until this day 60 years ago,
What we needed was given to us. Which was,
A bright light in the form of freedom,
And Freedom in the form of independence.
Finally!
We were free from the colonial masters,
Free to be ourselves
Free to abide by our laws
Free from the chains and ropes.
And most importantly, Free to enjoy our motherland.
INDEPENDENCE!
A light in the dark,
Paving a way for greatness.
